Long Island Bird & Exotics Veterinary Clinic is a state of the art veterinary hospital dedicated entirely to the care of avian and exotic pets. Located in Great Neck on Long Island, we serve a large portion of the tri-state area.
Our Veterinary Team
The team at Long Island Bird & Exotic Vet Clinic is led by Dr. Shachar Malka, who has more than 15 years of experience working with avian and exotic pets. He is joined by his team of talented vets and nursing staff. The doctors along with their dedicated team help care for thousands of birds, fish, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians and more.

Your pets deserve the best. That’s why we make it our mission is to provide the highest level of care using the most up-to-date techniques and equipment available. We are continually searching for the latest medical advancements through our participation in continuing education. Our veterinarians are well published and continue to publish scientific articles on a variety of topics in avian and exotic animal medicine. They lecture at international veterinary meetings, as well as other regional avian, exotics and wildlife related events.
We specialize in advanced surgical procedures, endoscopy and minimally invasive surgery, complicated anesthesia and advanced imaging. In addition to our high end specialized care, we also offer referrals and second opinions, behavioral consultations, routine annual exams, and boarding and grooming.
Emergency Care
Long Island Bird & Exotics Veterinary Clinic takes emergency messages until midnight and will call you back as soon as possible. Please note that the on-call doctor is not in the hospital after hours and will come in on an emergency basis only as determined by the doctor. If you feel your pet is in need of emergency care and you did not receive a call back, please refer to a 24-hour emergency clinic such as Veterinary Emergency Group in Carle Place (516) 693-8859 or Animal Medical Center in Manhattan (212) 838-8100.

Animals We Treat
Long Island Bird & Exotics Veterinary Clinic (LIBEVC) cares exclusively for exotic pets. We recommend bringing your exotic pets for annual physicals and, of course, to schedule an appointment with us if your pet has an injury or if you think they might be sick. The pets we treat include the following:

All birds: parrots, caiques, finches, cockatiels, canaries, finches, poultry, waterfowl and raptors

Small mammals: guinea pigs, ferrets, rabbits, chinchillas, hedgehogs, smaller rodents (rats, gerbils, hamsters, mice, degus), sugar gliders

Any reptiles: lizards, iguana, snakes, chelonians (turtles/tortoises), geckos
